Vaccination projects have been grossly mishandled in both Canada and the US.
There is so much rhetoric and heroism demonstrated by politicians, no less while using uniformed personnel as props. But far too few of us are being vaccinated.
Quite unfortunate!
Established systems should be used to "administer" vaccinations, not only to "deliver" the vaccines.
A few things need to come together to execute this more effectively.
Nursing homes and hospitals should be a first focus. But then, we need a process.
- Identify members of eligible populations (>60 or >70 years old) by zip code.
- Notify them by postcard to arrive at a predetermined date and time at a convenient, nearby location. For example, their local polling station is a familiar spot. And the election office already knows how to send out voter cards.
- Package Vaccine vials, syringes, and related materials. Ship them to the polling stations so sensors monitor the temperature.
- Send a team of a supervisor and five nurses to the polling stations.
- Start at 8 am. And finish when done for that polling station’s eligible population.
- Return all unused materials to the Regional office for safe storage.
